  • Your place for your trade in your town
  • Competitors above you, with reviews
  • A free 5 × 5 grid by email
How a rank grid reads
  • Top 3
  • 4–10
  • 11–20
  • Not found

Illustration, not a measurement. Each dot is one search spot; the number is the Maps position there.

  • Your place in a real Maps search

The check searches Google Maps for your trade plus the town on your website, such as “plumber Austin”, and shows where you appear in that list, or that you are not in it.

  • Who ranks above you

The businesses ahead of you, with their stars, review counts and distance from you, and the same businesses on a small map.

  • Your Business Profile basics

Whether we found your Google Business Profile, and what it is missing next to the businesses that rank higher.

  • A 5 × 5 map grid, once

Ask for the report by email and its link can map 25 spots around your business for that search, one grid per check.

Local rank tracking

Every week, not once

In StrideRank, Local → Rankings repeats the grid every week for 3 keywords on Starter on grids up to 7 × 7, 10 on Pro on grids up to 9 × 9. You see the share of spots where you are in the top three, how it moves week to week, and who ranks there instead.

  1. Open a private window

Use an incognito or private window, signed out of Google. Your own searches and visits to your profile change what you see.

  2. Search like a customer

Type the service the way a customer would, such as “roof repair” or “dentist near me”. Never search your business name; you will always rank for that.

  3. Set where you are searching from

Drag the map to the neighborhood you care about and choose “Search this area”. For an exact spot, Chrome’s developer tools let you set a location under Sensors.

  4. Count without the ads

Skip “Sponsored” pins and the Local Services Ads box above the list. Your rank starts at the first result nobody paid for.

  5. Repeat across town

Do the same from four or five places around your area and write the rank down each time. That is a rank grid by hand, and it shows how fast you fade with distance.

Is this Google Maps rank check really free?

Yes. It is part of the free SEO audit: no account, no card. You get your Maps position for your trade in your town and the businesses above you. The grid from the report email is free too, one per check.

Why does my Google Maps rank change when I search from a different place?

Distance between the searcher and the business is one of the three things Google uses to rank local results. Move a mile and the list can change. That is why a rank grid checks many spots instead of one.

Can I choose the keyword the free check uses?

No. It uses the trade it finds on your website or Google profile. Choosing your own keywords and tracking them weekly is part of the paid plans.

Is this the same as local rank tracking?

The free check is a snapshot. Local rank tracking means measuring the same searches on the same grid over time, so you can see whether changes worked. StrideRank does that every week on the paid plans.
