How pest control companies get picked on Google Maps
Each pest is its own search
Someone with termites and someone with bed bugs type different things and may see different companies. Many homeowners still say “exterminator” rather than “pest control”. A company that ranks for the general phrase can be missing for the pest that earns the most.
The swarm, the nest, the mouse
Termite swarms in spring, wasp nests in late summer and mice when it turns cold. Each wave starts with urgent “near me” searches. Same-day slots listed among your services match what these searchers want.
Primary categoryPest control service
“Pest control service” is what these searches line up with. The pests themselves, such as termites, rodents and bed bugs, belong in your services list and on your site; that is where Google learns which problems you solve.
Pick each name from Google’s list as you type; Google renames categories now and then.
How pest control companies check their rank by hand
Private window, set location, no ads counted: the basic method.
Search the old word too
Check “pest control” and “exterminator” side by side. Many owners only check the first.
One pest per check
Search “termite inspection”, “bed bug treatment” and “mice removal” separately, at the time of year each one peaks.
Look from the rural edge
Pest work often comes from outlying areas. Drag the map out there, because that is where a city-based competitor can thin out.
What costs pest control companies their spot
Only “general pest” in the services
A services list that just says “pest control” gives Google nothing to match a termite or bed bug search to. Name every pest you treat.
No license number anywhere
States license pesticide applicators. A license number on your site does not change the ranking, but it is what a careful homeowner looks for before calling.

hello@striderank.comShould I use the word “exterminator” in my profile?
Use it in your description and on your site if customers in your area say it. Do not add it to the business name unless it is part of your real name.
Why do I rank for “pest control” but not “termite inspection”?
Google matches the search to what your profile and site say. If termites are not in your services and you have no page about termite work, there is little for Google to match.
Do recurring service plans help on Google Maps?
Indirectly. Quarterly visits give you more moments to ask for a review, and a steady flow of recent reviews helps on the map. The plan itself is not something Google ranks.
