Google Maps rank check for HVAC companies

On the first hot day of the year, “ac repair near me” decides who books the week. In the first cold snap it is “furnace repair”. See where your HVAC company shows up on the map for both.

Two seasons, two different maps

Homeowners rarely type “hvac”. They type the broken thing: the AC in July, the furnace in January. Google can rank you differently for each, so a company that leads the summer map may barely show up in winter. The radius still starts at your verified address, and the busiest weeks are when the top three matter most.

No heat at night is an emergency

“Furnace not working” late at night and “ac not cooling” during a heat wave are searched by people who will hire whoever answers first. Holiday hours count here: a profile still showing normal hours on Thanksgiving weekend sends those calls elsewhere.

Your Google category

Primary categoryHVAC contractor

Often added
  • Air conditioning contractor
  • Heating contractor
  • Furnace repair service
  • Air conditioning repair service

“HVAC contractor” covers both seasons. If nearly all your work is cooling, “Air conditioning contractor” as the primary can fit better; the secondaries then carry the heating side so winter searches still find you.

Pick each name from Google’s list as you type; Google renames categories now and then.

  1. Check the cooling and the heating words

Search “ac repair” and “furnace repair” as two separate checks. Most HVAC owners only ever look at one of them.

  2. Check before the season starts

Look in spring for cooling and in early fall for heating. Then you still have weeks to fix the profile before the rush.

  3. Note who shows “Open 24 hours”

In the evening, see which competitors in the top three carry the badge. If they all do and you do not, that is often the whole gap.

  • A profile that only knows summer

Services, photos and posts all about air conditioning tell Google little about furnaces and heat pumps. List both sides, using the words homeowners use.

  • Dealer badges in the name

Adding a manufacturer’s dealer title to the business name breaks Google’s naming rules. Put dealer status in the description and on your website instead.

Why did my Google Maps rank drop in the fall?

Often it did not drop. The searches changed. In fall people stop typing “ac repair” and start typing “furnace repair” or “heating repair”, and you may never have ranked well for those. Check the heating words on their own.

HVAC contractor or Air conditioning contractor as primary category?

Pick the one that matches most of your revenue. Mixed shops do well with “HVAC contractor” as the primary and the heating and cooling categories as secondaries.

Do maintenance plans help my Maps ranking?

Not by themselves. They help through what follows: regular visits give you steady chances to ask for reviews, and steady fresh reviews are something Google’s map does show and weigh.
