Before you start
- You need to be the store owner or have permission to create API accounts in BigCommerce.
- Your store’s blog must be switched on (Storefront → Blog). BigCommerce includes the blog on every plan.
- StrideRank only needs one permission: Content — modify. It cannot see orders, customers or payments.
Connect step by step
Create a store API account
In your BigCommerce control panel, open Settings → Store-level API accounts and click Create API account. Choose the token type V2/V3 API token and name it “StrideRank”.
Give it the content permission
Under OAuth scopes, set Content to modify and leave everything else at none. Click Save.
Copy the token and the store hash
BigCommerce shows the Access token once and downloads a text file with the same details. The API path looks like
https://api.bigcommerce.com/stores/abc123/v3/— the code betweenstores/and/v3/is your store hash.Open the publishing settings
In StrideRank, open Settings → SEO autopilot and go to Publishing. Only owners and admins of the account can change the connection. Choose BigCommerce.
Enter the details
Paste the store hash, your shop address (for example
https://shop.yourbusiness.com) and the access token. Leave Blog path empty unless your blog lives somewhere other than/blog/.Save and test
Click Save connection, then Test connection. The test reads your blog through the API and reports the first problem it finds.
Good to know
- Each article gets its own address under your blog path, built from the article’s URL slug, plus the meta description you approved.
- Images are shown from our image storage inside the article. BigCommerce’s separate thumbnail needs a file upload over WebDAV, so we leave it to you.
- Your contact form appears in each article as a clear button that opens your StrideRank form page — these systems clean up forms inside blog text, so a link is the reliable way.
- Choose Draft if you want to publish each post in BigCommerce yourself. The article then waits there until you make it visible.
- When we update a published article automatically, we first check that nobody changed it in BigCommerce. If it was changed, we leave it alone and tell you.
| Message | What to check |
|---|---|
| BigCommerce rejected the credentials | The API account was deleted, or Content is not set to modify. Create a new account and copy its token. |
| The store hash is the short code in your API path | Copy only the code between stores/ and /v3/, without slashes. |
| BigCommerce rejected the post | Another page already uses the same address. Change the article’s URL slug and send it again. |
Questions
Can StrideRank see my orders or customers?
No. The API account only has the Content permission. Orders, customers, products and payments stay closed to it.
Does it work with Catalyst or a headless storefront?
The posts are saved in your BigCommerce blog either way. A headless storefront shows them only if it reads the blog — ask your developer.
